An Elite British Boarding system has been introduced at the HD Qingdao Wanda School.
Boarding at HD Qingdao is not merely a convenience but an integral part of the school’s bilingual programme. As an extension of the school day, boarding also adds significant value to the children’s experience.
Elite British Boarding features a British housemaster’s family-like environment, a variety of educational and fun extracurricular activities and world-class pastoral care. It aims to develop self-confident, compassionate, respectful and independent young people through community life. Boarders can both help and benefit from those alongside them as part of a living community that exemplifies the school’s values: for example, senior boarders often help junior students with their homework …. and occasionally the reverse!
We currently offer weekly boarding to all students at primary level, with plans to expand this to secondary boarding in the future. Boarders in the junior years share a room with up to three fellow students and truly begin to learn about the value of living together. Each boarding house is led by a Housemaster/ Housemistress in the style of their own family with a team of House Parents, all of whom report to the Assistant Principal (Boarding).
During the week, boarders benefit from the use of our wide range of on-site facilities, extended supervised evening homework and a range of social and extra-curricular activities including themed ‘House Nights’ where boarders take part in a range of competitions and games organised by House teams.
We believe that a good boarding school is a parent’s choice because they understand the significant educational and personal value of boarding. This growing understanding amongst parents in China makes this an outstanding opportunity to set the bar for the standard and style of bilingual boarding schools in the region. Furthermore, through the extended school day, students benefit from better opportunities to develop new interests, learn new skills, and form deeper friendships than possible in a day school.
To help achieve this goal, HD Qingdao benefits from the support of our UK sister school, Hurtwood House. Hurtwood House is one of the UK’s foremost co-educational schools and is renowned for the outstanding quality of its boarding programme, delivered for over half a century. For students at Hurtwood, school is a home away from home – they receive outstanding pastoral care in a nurturing, supportive and uplifting environment.
HD Qingdao likewise aims to foster an environment in which students will experience great success and enjoyment so that parents will recognise the benefits of entrusting the care of their children with us.
