Leadership Team


The Chief Academic Officer, Academic Director, and Executive Principals all have a rich experience in managing bilingual schools and international schools. The international teachers come from various English-speaking countries (including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia) and are professionally qualified. The Chinese teaching team are all well-experienced teachers from international schools or public schools and are led by academically outstanding teachers. Every member of our teaching team embraces education with full passion and commitment to academic excellence. 

Each class has an international teacher, a Chinese teacher and a learning facilitator. Teachers will get to know each child as an individual and will offer a personalized education for each child. We offer a unique curriculum integrated with character education.

Zhencun Li
Chief Academic Director of HD School

Zhencun Li was the Founder of Chinese Integrated Curriculum in the Primary Sector and member of Steering Committee for Basic Education Curriculum Material with the Ministry of Education. He was the former Founding Principal of Yizhuang (Etown) Branch of Beijing National Day School. He is the Chief Editor of Contemporary Education & Dean of Contemporary Education Institute.

Warren Johnston
Chief Academic Director of HD Schools

Warren Johnston, the Chief Academic Director of HD Schools, was formerly the founding Executive Principal of Shanghai YK Pao School, and the Primary School Headmaster of German Swiss International School. In addition to his unique personality and excellent leadership, he also has a profound insight into both Chinese and international culture. Warren enjoys a strong reputation as an excellent educator within China’s international education community.

Jeffery Schmidt
International Academic Director of HD Schools

Before joining HD School, Mr. Schmidt served as the Director of the FabLab at the famous Bullis Charter School in Los Altos, California, focusing on Project-based learning, Design-Thinking, robotics, tinkering, integrated STEAM and computer science into the program. He was also a member of the renowned STEAM Team at the Santa Clara County Office of Education in Silicon Valley California. Mr. Schmidt is a recipient of the CTE Teacher of the Year award (2013) and the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) CTE Administrator of the Year award (2016) and served as the President of the California Association for Career Technical Education (CACTE). Together with our International Deputy Principal Ms. Kim Fisher, Mr. Jeffrey Schmidt will bring the international curriculum of HDBJ to the next level.

Amy Chang
Principal of Primary School, HD Beijing School

In her 27 years of teaching, Ms. Chang has won the trust of students and parents with her motto, 'Education is nothing but dedication, wholeheartedly'. Her books were recommended by the Ministry of Education for middle & primary school libraries. She is the Chief Editor of the Integrated courses’ curriculum and won the 2017 'Whole Person Education Award'. Ms. Chang was named one of the Top Ten Influential People in driving national reading and was the Director of the Curriculum Research Institute at Yizhuang Elementary School. 

Yucui Yang
Deputy Principal of Primary School, HD Beijing School

Ms. Yang is a renowned math teaching expert, and has previously been the cover story of the journal, 'Contemporary Educator'. She was part of the management committee and Grade Director at Yizhuang Elementary School. Ms. Yang advocates thinking-focused math learning with life-relevant application and interdisciplinary integration. At her previous school she innovated the Mathematics Integrated Curriculum philosophy and teaching model which were highly valued by parents and children. 

Kim Fisher
Deputy Principal of Primary School, HD Beijing School

Ms Kim Fisher grew up in South Africa where she obtained Bachelor of Education degree. She has 12 years preparatory school teaching experience in London, United Kingdom and was Deputy Headmistress for the last 3 years. She is passionate about ensuring that children feel safe, confident and happy and inspired everyday by their resilience and ability to ‘think outside the box’.
