Which grades do the school enroll students in every year?
Shanghai HD recruits students age 3 to 18 years old. Currently we have students from CASA to G8. The A Level Program is expected to open from September 2020. We mainly recruit students in CASA, G1 and G6 every year. There are also opportunities for students to transfer to G2-5 and G7-8 every semester. What are the Hukou requirements for applicants?
According to the Shanghai Education Bureau, we recruit students who meet one of the following conditions :
A. Students with a Shanghai Hukou
B. Students with a non-Shanghai Hukou must meet the following requirements: applicant holds a valid Shanghai Residence Permit/Shanghai Temporary Residence Permit/Registration, a Certificate of Residence, and at least one parent holds a Shanghai Residence Permit
C. Students holds valid Mainland travel permit for a HK, Macau and Taiwan or foreign passport
What are the entry requirements?

Is there an application/registration fee?
No, HD Shanghai does not require any application/registration fee
What is the teacher-student ratio?
The teacher-student ratio in HD Shanghai is about 1 to 5. Each CASA class consists of a maximum of 20 students. For each primary and secondary classes, the maximum number is 25.
Will you accept students with lower English level at HD Shanghai?
We have an experienced team of international teachers, which can provide professional English learning experiences to Chinese students. Our ESL (English as a Second Language) programme is also provided to better support those with lower levels of English at present.
Does HD only care about academic performance of students?
At HD, our mission is to cultivate globally competitive and interest-driven talents in Chinese communities with holistic characters and strong academic foundations. We establish various after school activities (ASAs) and clubs to provide a balanced learning experience. Students are encouraged to participate in summer/winter camps or expeditions which help to develop their social abilities, team-work and perseverance.
How can parents communicate with school?
We believe parents are part of the school community and that communication between school and parents is vital, as we keen to meet the education needs of HD families. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our teachers or other school departments via email or phone. The PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) is also established at HD Shanghai which is a good channel for parents to make sure their voice is heard by the school. Principal’s Tea/Coffee gatherings are also held regularly to give parents the opportunities to communicate directly with the school leadership team.
Does HD Shanghai provide boarding service?
HD Shanghai is undergoing its second-phase expansion project which will include new teaching building, multi-functional theater, bilingual library and boarding facilities etc. The project is expected to be completed in 2 years and put into use from September 2020. We will be able to offer boarding from then to secondary students only, not to kindergarten and primary students.
Does HD School provide school bus service?
Yes, we provide school bus service. We have a professional school bus team with experienced drivers and bus ayis. Currently our bus routes cover most areas of the Songjiang District, and some areas of Qingpu/Minhang/Changning District. Door-to-door service is provided to many of our families but cannot be guaranteed. The school bus fee varies due to distance.
Can I transfer to other HD schools?
Currently HD has campuses in Ningbo, Shanghai, Beijing and Qingdao. HD schools will prioritize the internal applications under the conditions that places are available. The applicant needs to pass the entrance assessment set by each school.
